On the weekend of May 18th, Princess Craft RV hosted the Spring 2018 Texas Tiny Trailer Rally at The Johnson Creek RV Park in Kerrville, Texas. Once again, I can’t say enough great things about Princess Craft and this event. I attended my first Rally in the Fall of 2017 and even though I enjoyed it, this one was much better for me because I got to relax more. In the fall, it was only my second trip and I was still working things out and trying to get some of my ideas to function in real life, the way I pictured them in my head. This time I had it all organized and planned so that even the packing was easier. I was able to spend around 30 minutes Wednesday packing the camper and truck and around the same amount of time to get hooked up and ready to go Thursday after work. Setting up when I got there was also easy to do, especially with their wide, paved, pull thru sites. So I was ready to for camper coffee and breakfast first thing Friday morning.
I got to use all of my outdoor setup and decorations on this trip. This includes my new solar light. I was very happy with how it worked. The lights got enough sun during the day and were still on at around 5:00 am. This is going to be a great alternative to the bright LEDs on the T@G for boondocking and parks with mostly tent campers.
The setting at Johnson Creek RV Park is very calm and serene. There is a nice covered patio area overlooking the creek.
There are miniature horses living in pasture beside the park. Bella wanted to go visit them right away but I thought when she got close she would not like them. I was wrong, she wanted to go through the fence to see them. Next time I will have to take carrots to feed them.
There were a lot of activities for the Rally that I did not take pictures of because I was living in the moment and did not think about it. This includes Tech Talks, where someone from the dealership leads a discussion about relevant camping topics, a pot luck dinner, a beer and wine tasting and this year, rock painting. Lindsay at Princess Craft tried to find rocks shaped like Teardrop campers.
One of the best parts of the weekend is of course the camper tours where you can see how other people have customized their tiny trailers. Some people focus more on the inside, some on the outside. Some try to make it as decorative as possible, while others work on making it more functional, but all in all it’s great to see how people have made their trailers their own. This time there were a few remodeled vintages and one home made. If you are considering a tiny trailer I recommend coming to a rally before you buy and see what is available.
This restored Travelier won the award for most vibrant vintage for it’s woke being done to keep it as close to original as possible.
This T@G and it’s lovely setup won for best outdoor space. It was a great win because I camped by her at the last Rally and we were both new and stressed out about making everything work. This time we both had a much more enjoyable Rally.
This Airstream won for Best Glamper and rightfully so. We all agreed we should have been having a tea party in it.
Bella enjoyed the attention she got but she was still not thrilled with being outside that long. I left in the camper for some tours and came back to find that she had unmade the bed and made herself a nest.
Saturday night is the last party of the weekend with a band and awards.
I was thrilled and honored to win the “Master of Mods” this time. It was a very satisfying win after the first Rally where I wondered if any of my ideas would ever work out. What a difference 6 months can make! Looking forward to the next Rally in the Fall to see what everyone has done.
